When I first purchased my water storage tank for emergency purposes, I never really thought that I would have to use it. Boy was I wrong! In November of 2017, we were having great weather for weeks and I didn’t pay any attention to having my well insulated for winter.
I went on a little mini-vacation for four days and in that time the weather made a drastic change for the worse. The people that were taking care of my animals called me on the last day of vacation and told me that the water in the horse barn was not working! They tried the water in the house and it was not working either.
I knew instantly that the well pump was frozen, and I needed to get home right away. Thank goodness that they had filled the horse tank the day before it got cold so the critters had water.
I made it home in record time that day, so I could pull the capacitor and get a heat unit set up for the well. Lucky me, I had 35 gallons of water on hand in my emergency water tank that I thought I would never use!
I had enough water for the potties, water to drink and cook with and water for a little bathing. I used almost half the water the first two days and the pump started working the afternoon of the second day.
Emergency Water Storage Container To The Rescue
Well, now it really gets good! During the night the wind came up, the old heater stopped working and by morning I didn’t have any water again and it was 22 degrees below 0 with a 20 mile an hour wind. I was ready to give up.
I called up a friend to help me because by now I had come down with the flu and was feeling like crap, heck, I couldn’t even get out of bed without a giant groan and high fever. Situations like this is when you really find out who your friends are.
My friends did get a new heater for my well and got it set-up, now all I had to do was wait for it to thaw. In the mean time I used more of my emergency water supply for making tea and soup, flushing endless potties, watering the dog and yes, the horse tank ran out of water too.
I was down to my last 5 gallons of water when the well started to thaw and I had water from then on. Thank you, Lord! The very first thing I did when I had water was to refill my emergency water supply tank!
I am so thankful for good friends and having the presence of mind to store some water for emergency purposes. My friends were so impressed with my water storage tank that they now own two of them as they have a large family.
For the small amount of money these tanks cost, they are worth their weight in gold when you run out of water. If you would like to see my review on emergency water storage tanks, just click here. I can guarantee it is a purchase you will never regret making.
